The ensemble was formed by Carmel H. Abramovitch to perform his arrangement for Ravel's Sonatine, hence the name. Ravel was a composer of the Impressionism movement, and this specific piece was considered "Neo-Classical", which aims to bring together the "good and old" with contemporary ideals. In essence, the neo-classical style of Ravel is what drives ensemble's ambition under Carmel's direction. Sonatine keeps bringing innovation into music, and with it, questioning the term Classical. From modern interpretations of Baroque, to Turkish Samai, and even Progressive Metal - the group will color the music they love, with respect to the immortality of the Classical.
